Thursday, 8 August 2024

A composition by Rhys Owen (OKG20) for the Bicentenary of the NSW Legislative Council, The Striving Spirit, will be performed at NSW Parliament this month.

Rhys was one of three musicians commissioned to write music celebrating the Bicentenary of the Legislative Council. He composed The Striving Spirit for String Orchestra (including Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass), and a Percussionist (switching between Glockenspiel, Tambourine, and Suspended Cymbals). 13 musicians, all students from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, will perform Rhys' music twice during Open House at NSW Parliament on 25 August in sessions titled 'Reflect-Celebrate-Imagine.'  Tickets for both sessions have sold out.

The music has also been professionally recorded at Trackdown Studios. This recording is expected to be released after the premiere at Parliament.
